ELECTION 2012
Release: October 26, 2012

For the 2012 election, our Managing Editors and I produced a 20-page issue covering the Obama & Romney campaign. After months of brainstorming and debating, we landed on highlighting each candidate’s stance on seven top issues, the deciding factors, including the impact of social media, swing states to watch and the power of the Hispanic vote.

Knowing how busy our student body was, we strived for concise but information-packed pieces. We sought out an array of voices: experts, NYU students in New York to students abroad. Every story was rigorously fact-checked. I designed infographics with bold colors to help readers digest information quickly.

Besides news from the national stage, we also featured student activists on campus. We balanced our coverage with lighter content, including a portrait gallery of presidential pets! To drive online traffic, we also produced web-exclusive stories.

This issue was recognized by USA Today as a standout publication by a college newspaper.

FRINGE
Release: Spring 2011, Fall 2011, 2012

Twice a year, we published FRINGE, the fashion edition, to highlight the latest trends of New York Fashion Week.

We produced our shoots using New York City as the backdrop — Central Park, the High Line, the Brooklyn Historical Society, etc.

I oversaw the production from beginning to end, from obtaining designer clothing and accessories with the Fashion Editor, securing locations, sourcing photographers, finding models. Afterward, I designed the layouts for the issues highlighted here.

INFLUENTIAL STUDENTS
Release: December 2011, 2012

Our final issue of each calendar year was a magazine highlighting student leaders making a difference on campus. Our Managing Team and I would assign writers and hire different photographers to cover them “in their element.”

Twice, I built a set and produced shoots in our office. To help students’ personalities shine through, I asked leaders to bring their favorite “props.” For the 2012 issue, I asked each participant to draw / sign their names and write what the word “influential” meant to them. I then incorporated their work into the final layout.

BROWNSTONE: 9/11 TRIBUTE
Release: September 11, 2011

Alongside our Fashion Editor, we launched Brownstone, an online-only exclusive magazine that would drive additional traffic to our burgeoning website. We published various issues, including a 10th anniversary of 9/11 (featured).

As Art Director, I experimented with a design distinct from our daily print and monthly special editions. Since we were free from the constraints of a print publication, I played with different dimensions, bolder fonts and featured photo essays and archival-led stories.
