Role
Editor-In-Chief
288 pages celebrating the life and times of Glen A. Wilson High School in 2009.
Project
I conceptualized, edited and designed the yearbook for the 2008-2009 school year. With co-Editor-In-Chief and adviser, we selected “You Are Here” as the theme to highlight our diverse student body.
Our yearbook was divided into five sections: Student Life, People, Academics, Clubs & Organizations and Sports. Leading a team of writers, photographers and editors, we approached stories with new angles: instead of the same old piece about Valentine’s Day, we opted for a feature on celebrity crushes.
I used design to push our storytelling boundaries. Designing 288 layouts, I incorporated references specific to each story — a comic book strip for our “Hidden Talents” page as if our students were superheroes, or in the “Teachers Then & Now,” I “hung up” old photos of our teachers like a family photo wall. For our “tall” basketball team, I designed pages... sideways. A railroad line tied all the elements together, providing a sense of journey.
Before publication, I reviewed and revised all proofs.
Pages from this yearbook won first at regional design competitions.
